The Award in Scotland covers a geographical area of 500 miles (top to bottom distance including the Shetland Isles!). There are currently between 17,000 and 20,000 young people participating in the Award throughout Scotland and the number of new entrants continues to grow.

There are many organisations delivering the Award in Scotland. We have:

  • 32 Local Authorities
  • 25 Independent Schools
  • 8 Voluntary Youth Organisations
  • 15 Wild Country Panels
  • 5 Businesses
  • 7 Access Organisations
WHAT WE DO AT THE SCOTTISH AWARD OFFICE
  • Licence, service, support and assist Operating Authorities
  • Monitor quality and standards
  • Promote and develop the Award, including Access Organisations
  • Liase and establish working relationships with Central Government, Voluntary Youth Organisations, National Governing Bodies, Businesses etc
  • Organise courses and events including a biennial Scottish General Conference and an annual Gold Award Presentation held at The Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh
  • Communicate between Head Office, Operating Authorities and other users of the Award Programme

Awards Network Conference 2008

Monday 6th October Edinburgh Hilton Hotel

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is now part of The Awards Network in Scotland, a forum of organisations that provide individual learning awards for young people in Scotland.

The Awards Conference 2008 is your opportunity to meet the range of Awards available in Scotland to value, recognise and accredit young people's achievements.

The event will include:

  • The launch of Youth Scotland's new publication, "Amazing Things - A guide to the youth awards in Scotland"
  • Guest speaker's including Bernard McLeary, Learning and Teaching Scotland to demonstrate how youth work awards support the Curriculum for Excellence agenda
  • A Market Place of Awards providers
  • Key Stakeholders Panel with representation from Awards Holders, Scottish Government, Commerce, Youth Work, Careers Scotland and Learning Teaching Scotland
  • Topic Tables for delegates to hear more about individual Awards
  • The Great Awards Giveaway!

The event has been organised by a new forum, The Awards Network in Scotland, a collection of 18 agencies that provide individual learning awards using a youth work approach for the 12 to 25 age group.

This one day event is being held at the Hilton Edinburgh Airport on Monday 6 October 2008.The day delegate fee is £60 including restaurant lunch and refreshments. Delegates will receive a copy of "Amazing Things - A guide to the youth awards in Scotland". This is a free resource supported by Scottish Government and the publication can be ordered individually or in bulk by contacting Youth Scotland.

Gold Award Presentation of 4th July 2007

 

More than six hundred young people were presented to HRH Prince Philip when they attended the Gold Award Presentations on the 4th July at the Palace of Holyroodhouse, with their family and friends. Amongst those receiving their awards were groups from as far afield as Orkney and Northern Ireland.  

 

Celebrities from the world of sport and television joined representatives from business and government to salute these talented young people, and to present their Gold Award Certificates. They included Jamie Andrew (Mountaineer), ‘Boogie’ Radio DJ on Forth FM, Robert Brown MSP; Rhona Cameron (comedian and author), Christian Dailly (Scotland and Rangers football player),  Alan Hinkes OBE (mountaineer), Brian Jones  (balloonist), Eleanor Laing MP (Shadow Minister for Justice), Howie R Nicholsby, (Director of 21st Century Kilts), Gordon Smith, (Chief Executive of the Scottish Football Association) , Cameron Stout, (TV personality), Karen Whitefield MSP, John Underhill (international football referee) and Shirley Webb  (Member of British Athletics Team).
