A message from Sir Tom Farmer, Chairman of Trustees...

Dear Award Officer,

The Duke of Edinburgh's Award helps young people to seize the opportunities open to them and achieve great things. Since its inception, over three million young people have reaped the enormous benefits it offers.

As an Operating Authority Award Officer you form the backbone of the Award - you are responsible for supporting Award Groups, who offer advice and guidance to Participants; you recruit, support and inspire the voluntary Leaders, instructors and assessors, and take responsibility for training and safety as well as authorising the granting of Awards.

Your role is crucial in maintaining the integrity and standards of the Award and encouraging young people from a wide variety of backgrounds to take part.

The Award staff and Trustees work in partnership with you and your organisation to share the vision of making the Programme available to any young person who wishes to take part, and we are grateful for your continued enthusiasm and dedication.

Sir Tom Farmer CBE
Chair of Trustees
The Duke of Edinburgh's Award

Lack of leaders/resources
The Award is not cool
It all costs too much
